Placing Fixtures

Fixtures in Theatrical: Realistic Pack (TRP) can be placed directly in the world or mounted on compatible rigging structures.

TRP detects the surface and support used during placement so the fixture can adopt an appropriate physical orientation and mounting position.

Since TRP 0.15.X, fixtures placed on ordinary horizontal surfaces can also use Free Placement, allowing more precise positioning based on the exact cursor location instead of always centring the fixture on the block.

Basic Placement

Select the fixture you want to place and use it on a valid block or supported structure.

Depending on the surface and fixture position, TRP can place fixtures:

• Upright
• Hanging
• On compatible truss
• On rigging pipes
• On supported side rails
• On compatible plates
• Freely positioned on ordinary horizontal surfaces

The fixture’s rendered orientation and mounting hardware adapt to the selected placement where supported.

Placing Fixtures on the Ground

Fixtures can be placed normally on suitable world surfaces.

This is useful for:

• Floor fixtures
• Stage decks
• Testing fixtures
• Temporary programming setups
• Upright lighting positions

Some fixtures are naturally more suitable for floor placement than others, but TRP does not require every fixture to be hung from truss.

Free Placement

Since TRP 0.15.X, Free Placement is enabled by default through the freeFixturePlacement client setting.

When placing a fixture on an ordinary horizontal surface, including partial-height surfaces such as slabs or carpets, the exact cursor position can determine the fixture’s placement offset instead of forcing it to the centre of the block.

Before placement, TRP displays a preview using the actual fixture model. Valid positions are shown in green/teal, while obstructed positions are shown in red.

Free Placement does not add unrestricted wall mounting and does not replace the normal snapped mounting behaviour used by compatible truss and rigging structures.

Hanging Fixtures

Fixtures can also be hung from compatible support structures.

TRP includes explicit fixture-support compatibility for:

• TRP F34 truss
• Theatrical truss
• Theatrical rigging pipes
• Recognised Theatrical Extra Lights truss
• Recognised SEF quad-truss variants

The exact placement available depends on the support type and orientation.
