Beam Occlusion Mode

TRP provides two beam-occlusion modes:

  • Legacy
  • Realistic

Default: Legacy

Occlusion determines how TRP evaluates world geometry when calculating where beams and projections interact with blocks.

Legacy Occlusion

Legacy is the less expensive compatibility mode.

It uses the first relevant collision or projection result to limit the visible beam.

This mode is recommended when:

  • Maximum performance is important
  • Many fixtures are active
  • Realistic world interaction is less important
  • Running on lower-end hardware

Legacy is the default mode.

Realistic Occlusion

Realistic mode performs more detailed world-geometry sampling.

It can consider relevant:

  • Faces
  • Corners
  • Floors
  • Walls
  • Undersides

while preserving the intended visible beam cone up to the configured range.

This produces stronger and more convincing beam/world interaction, but requires more processing than Legacy mode.

Realistic mode is recommended for:

  • Showcase builds
  • Smaller or medium-sized productions
  • High-end systems
  • Situations where accurate beam interaction is important
