Spiider

The ROBE Spiider is a moving LED wash and effect fixture implemented in Theatrical: Realistic Pack (TRP).
Its TRP implementation is built around 19 individually represented RGBW light sources and supports a wide range of wash, zone, pattern, pixel and full-control personalities.

The Spiider implementation focuses on advanced wash, zone, pattern and pixel control rather than conventional gobo-based projection.
DMX Modes
The Spiider currently includes the following TRP personalities:
| Mode | Channels |
|---|---|
| Theatrical | 7 |
| Mode 1: Zones | 49 |
| Mode 2: Basic | 27 |
| Mode 3: Advanced | 33 |
| Mode 4: Full RGBA | 90 |
| Mode 5: Wash | 27 |
| Mode 6: Pattern | 47 |
| Mode 7: Pixel RGB | 91 |
| Mode 8: Pixel RGBA | 110 |
| Mode 9: Pattern Full RGB | 104 |
| Mode 10: Pattern Full RGBA | 123 |
Mode 5: Wash is the default personality in the reviewed implementation.
The selected personality determines which control layers are available and how many consecutive DMX channels the fixture occupies.
For example, a Spiider using Mode 8: Pixel RGBA at Address 1 occupies 110 DMX channels.
Implemented Functions
The Spiider implementation includes:
- Pan and Tilt
- Smooth movement
- Dimmer
- Shutter / Strobe
- RGBW colour control
- Wash control
- Zone control
- Individual pixel control
- RGB pixel personalities
- RGBA pixel personalities
- Pattern control
- Full pattern / pixel combinations
- Flower-effect functionality
- Zoom
- Fixture-specific effect functions
The exact functionality available depends on the selected personality.
Pixel & Zone Control
The Spiider contains 19 individually represented RGBW light sources.
Its more advanced personalities allow TRP to control the fixture at different levels of detail, ranging from simple global wash output to individual pixel and pattern operation.
Available control approaches include:
Wash
The complete fixture is operated primarily as a conventional moving LED wash.
Zones
Groups of light sources can be controlled independently without requiring full individual pixel control.
Pixel RGB
Individual light sources can be controlled using RGB values.
Pixel RGBA
Individual light sources can be controlled using RGBA-style personalities where implemented.
Pattern Modes
Pattern personalities expose the Spiider’s multi-source effect behaviour without requiring the user to control every pixel individually.
Full Pattern / Pixel Modes
The largest personalities combine detailed pattern control with individual pixel output.
These modes require significantly larger DMX footprints and may also be more demanding when large numbers of Spiiders are active simultaneously.
Flower Effect
The Spiider implementation includes support for its fixture-specific flower-effect functionality.
This system works alongside the fixture’s wash, pattern and pixel controls and forms part of the richer Spiider personalities.
The exact DMX behaviour depends on the selected mode.
Fixture Configuration
Interact with the Spiider using an empty hand to open its physical fixture display.
The common TRP fixture interface allows configuration of:
- Theatrical Network
- DMX Universe
- DMX Start Address
- Fixture Mode
- Lamp Mode
- Display Brightness
- Display Enabled / Disabled
- Pan Invert
- Tilt Invert
- Pan / Tilt Reset
- All Reset
The display can also show operational states such as:
RESET
PLEASE WAIT
NO DMX
Configuration access respects Theatrical Network membership when the fixture belongs to a network.
Custom Gobos
The Spiider does not support TRP’s Custom Gobo Service system.
It does not use a serviceable physical gobo wheel.
Its advanced effects are instead based primarily around:
- Multiple RGBW sources
- Zones
- Pixels
- Patterns
- Flower effects
Focus Tool
The Spiider is compatible with the Focus Tool.
This allows one or more Spiider fixtures to be aimed using TRP’s multi-fixture focusing system.
Available Focus Tool operations include:
Point Mode
All selected fixtures are aimed toward one selected point in the world.
Two-Point Span Mode
Selected fixtures are spatially distributed across a line between two selected points.
The tool can also provide automatic or manual assistance for supported optical controls such as focus, zoom and intensity.
RoboSpot & FollowMe
The Spiider is not currently compatible with:
- RoboSpot
- FollowMe
These systems are only enabled for explicitly supported fixtures.
Flight Cases

The Spiider has two dedicated functional flight cases:
- Spiider ×2
- Spiider ×4
These cases support:
- Opening and closing
- Loading matching Spiider fixtures
- Fixture storage by count
- Unloading
- Movement as a pushable / grabbable case
- Placement back into the world
Only the matching fixture type can be loaded into a Spiider flight case.
Important: Flight cases store fixture type and quantity rather than a complete individual NBT record for every stored fixture.
Unique fixture settings should therefore not be assumed to survive storage inside a flight case.
Rigging & Mounting

The Spiider can be mounted on compatible TRP and recognised rigging structures.
Supported structures include:
- TRP F34 truss
- Theatrical truss
- Theatrical rigging pipes
- Recognised Theatrical Extra Lights structures
- Recognised SEF quad-truss variants
TRP’s F34 system supports top, bottom and side/rail mounting where applicable.
The Spiider also supports the Truss Mount Tool.
On compatible horizontal F34 side mounts, the physical fixture orientation can be adjusted from:
0° → 120°
in:
15° increments
This affects the physical mounting orientation only and should not be confused with DMX Pan or Tilt.
Known Limitations
- Custom Gobo Service is not supported.
- RoboSpot is not supported.
- FollowMe is not supported.
- Flight-case storage does not preserve full per-fixture NBT.
- The larger pixel and pattern personalities use very large DMX footprints.
- Exact DMX channel-value ranges are not included here unless separately validated against the fixture implementation.
- Complex pixel output can increase rendering and system load when many Spiiders are active simultaneously.
