TetraX

The ROBE TetraX is a moving linear pixel and effect fixture implemented in Theatrical: Realistic Pack (TRP).
Its TRP implementation features 9 individually represented RGBW pixels together with 3 flower-effect sections, allowing it to operate as a wash, pattern fixture or individually controlled pixel effect depending on the selected DMX personality.

TetraX is primarily designed around wash, pattern, pixel and flower-effect operation rather than conventional gobo-based projection.
DMX Modes
The TetraX currently includes the following TRP personalities:
| Mode | Channels |
|---|---|
| Theatrical | 7 |
| Mode 1: Wash | 42 |
| Mode 2: Pattern | 62 |
| Mode 3: Pixel RGB | 76 |
| Mode 4: Pixel RGBW | 85 |
| Mode 5: Pattern Full RGB | 89 |
| Mode 6: Pattern Full RGBW | 98 |
Mode 1: Wash is the default personality in the reviewed implementation.
The selected personality determines how much individual control is exposed and how many consecutive DMX channels the fixture occupies.
For example, a TetraX using Mode 6: Pattern Full RGBW at Address 1 occupies 98 DMX channels.
Implemented Functions
The TetraX implementation includes:
- Pan and Tilt
- Smooth movement
- Dimmer
- Shutter / Strobe
- RGBW colour control
- Wash control
- Pattern control
- Individual pixel control
- RGB pixel personalities
- RGBW pixel personalities
- Full pattern / pixel combinations
- Flower-effect control
- Fixture-specific effect functions
The exact controls available depend on the selected personality.
Pixel Control
TetraX contains 9 individually represented RGBW pixels.
The available personalities provide several levels of control depending on how much detail is required.
Wash Mode
The fixture can be operated primarily as a complete wash/effect unit without requiring individual control of every pixel.
Pixel RGB
Each of the nine pixels can be controlled using RGB values.
This provides individual colour control while using a smaller footprint than the full RGBW personality.
Pixel RGBW
The RGBW personality provides individual four-component control over the fixture’s nine represented pixels.
Pattern Full RGB
Combines the fixture’s pattern systems with detailed RGB pixel control.
Pattern Full RGBW
Provides the most detailed TetraX personality currently implemented in TRP, combining pattern functionality with individual RGBW pixel control.
This personality uses 98 DMX channels.
Pattern System
TetraX includes dedicated pattern personalities for controlling its multi-source effects without requiring every visual element to be programmed individually.
Available pattern-oriented personalities include:
- Mode 2: Pattern
- Mode 5: Pattern Full RGB
- Mode 6: Pattern Full RGBW
The full modes combine pattern functionality with individual pixel control, allowing more complex effects to be reproduced through external DMX control.
Flower Effects
The TetraX implementation contains 3 individually represented flower-effect sections.
These form a separate part of the fixture’s visual effect system alongside the nine RGBW pixels.
Depending on the selected DMX personality, the flower sections can participate in the fixture’s broader pattern and effect behaviour.
Fixture Configuration
Interact with the TetraX using an empty hand to open its physical fixture display.
The common TRP fixture interface allows configuration of:
- Theatrical Network
- DMX Universe
- DMX Start Address
- Fixture Mode
- Lamp Mode
- Display Brightness
- Display Enabled / Disabled
- Pan Invert
- Tilt Invert
- Pan / Tilt Reset
- All Reset
The physical display can also represent operational states such as:
RESET
PLEASE WAIT
NO DMX
When the fixture belongs to a Theatrical Network, configuration access respects that network’s membership and permissions.
Custom Gobos
The TetraX does not support TRP’s Custom Gobo Service system.
It does not use a serviceable conventional gobo wheel.
Its effect system is instead based around:
- RGBW pixels
- Patterns
- Flower effects
- Multi-element colour and effect control
Focus Tool
The TetraX is compatible with the Focus Tool.
This allows one or multiple TetraX fixtures to be selected and aimed together.
Point Mode
All selected fixtures are aimed towards a single selected position in the world.
Two-Point Span Mode
Two world positions define a span.
Selected fixtures are spatially sorted and distributed between those positions, allowing a group of TetraX fixtures to be focused across a larger target area.
The Focus Tool can store up to 32 compatible fixture targets.
RoboSpot & FollowMe
The TetraX is not currently compatible with:
- RoboSpot
- FollowMe
These systems are only available on explicitly supported fixture models.
Flight Cases
There is currently no dedicated TetraX flight case implemented in TRP.
Only fixture models with explicitly implemented matching flight cases can use TRP’s flight-case storage system.
Rigging & Mounting

The TetraX can be mounted on compatible TRP and recognised rigging structures.
Supported systems include:
- TRP F34 truss
- Theatrical truss
- Theatrical rigging pipes
- Recognised Theatrical Extra Lights structures
- Recognised SEF quad-truss variants
TRP F34 supports appropriate top, bottom and side/rail fixture mounting.
TetraX also supports the Truss Mount Tool.
On compatible horizontal F34 side mounts, the physical mounting angle can be adjusted from:
0° → 120°
in:
15° increments
This controls the physical rigging orientation and is completely separate from DMX Pan and Tilt.
Known Limitations
- Custom Gobo Service is not supported.
- RoboSpot is not supported.
- FollowMe is not supported.
- No dedicated TetraX flight case is currently available.
- High-detail pixel and pattern personalities require significantly larger DMX footprints.
- Exact DMX channel-value ranges are not included here unless separately validated against the implementation.
- Large numbers of simultaneously active pixel fixtures can increase rendering and system load.
